 On this episode of Devine Intervention, Yahoo Sports senior NBA writer Dan Devine is joined by Adam Mares from DNVR to try and figure out what has happened to the reigning champs that has them down 2-0 in their series against the Minnesota Timberwolves. But first, Dan asks Adam to list something from the world of basketball that is bringing him joy and Adam picks….the Minnesota Timberwolves! They’re playing great basketball right now and are a joy to watch, even if they’re beating the team that Adam roots for. Dan and Adam then have a long conversation about a number of things that have gone wrong in Denver this year and seem to be causing issues for the Nuggets since the start of the NBA Playoffs. Can the Nuggets win if Jamal Murray doesn’t get better? Will Jamal Murray be suspended? Are we sure the GM and head coach are on the same page? What if this roster has just expired and nobody realized it yet? Before moving on to The Closing Five and weekly recommendations, the guys take a few minutes to talk about Anthony Edwards, who appears to be one of the best leaders in the entire NBA despite being just 22-years old. Dan and Adam both relay some of their favorite moments from his recent press conferences that show how coach-like he already is.

 On this very special episode of No Cap Room, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Jake Fischer is at TD Garden after the Boston Celtics won game 1 of the NBA Finals and Yahoo Sports senior NBA writer Dan Devine is in the office to podcast about what just happened. The guys talk about how dominant the Boston Celtics were, especially in the ways their defense was able to slow down Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, before putting a spotlight on Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis had been everyone’s “x-factor” leading into the NBA Finals, and he showed exactly why by coming off the bench and dominating the second half of the 1st quarter and giving the Celtics a lead over the Dallas Mavericks that they would never give up. Jake gives a positive shoutout to Sam Hauser, who played a big role in game 1 after many suspected that he would get played off the court by the Mavericks, and then a negative shoutout to Maxi Kleber, who can’t keep defenses honest if he is unwilling to shoot the ball. After putting a bow on game 1, the guys talk about adjustments the Mavericks could make to try and keep pace with the Celtics in a very important game 2 before the series heads to Dallas.

Since losing to the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2021 NBA Playoffs, the Dallas Mavericks have changed their owner, general manager, head coach and pretty much everyone on the roster not named Luka Doncic. Vinnie and Tim talk about the adjustments that were made, and the patience that was needed, to make it all work and for the team to succeed at this level. The guys preview the NBA Finals, including how both offenses seem to force both defenses to play a way that they’re not totally comfortable. Dereck Lively II may be a rookie, but he’s one of the most important and impactful players for Dallas in this series. How he defends on the perimeter might be the key to the Mavericks slowing down the Celtics offense. Kyrie Irving has a long and tumultuous history with Boston, but Tim argues that growth and maturity have brought Kyrie to a place where he won’t be rattled by whatever the Boston fans yell at him. The health of former Dallas Mavericks center Kristaps Porzingis, who hasn’t played in almost six weeks, might be the key to the whole series. If he can move his feet and hit deep threes, it makes it almost impossible for the Mavericks to defend the Celtics the way they want to. Before wrapping the show, Tim gives his (admittedly biased) prediction on what will happen in the 2024 NBA Finals between the Mavericks and Celtics.
